RASC News Agency: As per reports the Taliban’s Department of Education in Balkh celebrated Teacher’s Day without the presence of any female teachers. This marks a concerning development in the already challenging educational landscape of Afghanistan. On Thursday, October 5th, which was designated as the International Teacher’s Day, the Taliban Department of Education held a ceremony at the Bakhtar high school in Mazar -e- Sharif.
However, the female teachers were absent from the celebration due to the ongoing restrictions on girls’ education. Despite the challenges, there are over 16,000 teachers currently employed in public schools in the Balkh province, as reported by the Department of Education. Unfortunately, on this day of celebration, teachers also expressed their dissatisfaction with their salary, which fails to cover their basic living expenses.
Following the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan, in addition to imposing further restrictions on the rights of women and girls in the country, the Taliban prohibited girls over the sixth grade from attending school and continued to close the doors of universities to girls.
