General Malik: Followers of Abdul Rahman Khan’s Policies May Lead to the Fragmentation of Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: General Abdul Malik, a prominent leader of Afghanistan’s Turkmen community, responded to comments made by Jan Achakzai, a former intelligence minister from Pakistan’s Balochistan province, asserting that followers of Abdul Rahman Khan’s policies could lead to Afghanistan’s disintegration. In a message on his social media platform on Thursday, May 9, Malik stated that Achakzai, being Pashtun, is well-informed about the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

Malik further explained that the Taliban’s strategy to alter the demographics of the north through land seizures, forced displacements, and tensions while adhering to Amir Abdul Rahman Khan’s policies would perpetuate cycles of fratricidal violence. Malik also inferred from Achakzai’s statements that the northern project isn’t just about demographic changes but may also stir discord and instability extending from the Central Asian republics to Moscow.

He argued that the oppressive policies of Amir Abdul Rahman Khan have historically resulted in instability and internal conflict, even among Afghanistan’s Pashtun communities, leading to their ruin and the potential fragmentation of the country. Malik stressed that the people of northern Afghanistan are aware and vigilant against these unfavorable policies and will not remain silent. He also called for the establishment of a decentralized federal system.

Previously, Jan Achakzai stated that the Taliban were following Abdul Rahman Khan’s policies concerning the resettlement of Pashtuns in northern Afghanistan. The former Pakistani official asserted that implementing Pashtun resettlement in the north suggests an attempt to erase the identities of other ethnic minorities, which can only happen if land owned by other ethnic groups is given to the Pashtuns.
