RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar province say that the Taliban group arrested a former soldier in this province after returning from Iran.

Local sources say that this former soldier’s name is “Masoud” and the members of the Taliban group arrested him on Saturday, September 3 in “Khafdara” village of Farkhar district and transferred him to an unknown place.

Massoud was the director of the fight against drugs in the police command of the previous government in Farkhar district of Takhar province.

According to the sources, he fled to Iran due to the fear of being arrested by the Taliban group. However, he recently returned to his hometown in Takhar province.

So far, the motive behind the arrest of this former soldier by the Taliban group is not known.

This is while the Taliban group has increased the arrest of former government soldiers and civilians in a number of Northern provinces of the country.

Two days ago, this group arrested at least 40 civilians in Baharak district of Takhar province.

Previously, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) had reported hundreds of cases of human rights violations by the military and officials of the previous government, including threats, arrests, torture and murder.

The UNAMA report, which includes the cases recorded in it from August 15, 2021 to June 30, 2023, shows that at least 800 cases of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture and enforced disappearance of officials and soldiers of the former government have been committed by the Taliban group.

Roza Otenbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s special representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, said that all the documented cases were carried out with complete impunity and asked the Taliban group to adhere to their commitment to “general amnesty”.
