RASC News Agency: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in its latest report titled “Gender Equality, Struggle for Girls’ Education in Afghanistan“, described the situation of Afghanistani women as worrying and sad.

UNICEF published this report on Wednesday, August 16, one day after the two-year anniversary of the Taliban rule over Afghanistan.

In this report, the United Nations expressed concern about the situation of women in Afghanistan and said that the mental condition of girls and women in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban group is worrying.

The officials of UNICEF’s American branch, after talking with the coach of the Afghanistani girls’ robotics team, said that from 2021 onwards, the increase in restrictions against women has caused the spread of depression among them.

A part of the UNICEF report states: “The situation of girls in Afghanistan is incomprehensible. Depression is widespread and the suicide rate among Afghanistani girls has increased. It’s sad.”

Meanwhile, a number of girls in Afghanistan who are struggling with severe depression say that life is not colorful for them these days and they feel that they have aged years due to high psychological pressure.

At the same time, these actions of the Taliban group against Afghanistani women have faced global reactions, and yesterday, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that the International Criminal Court should prosecute the leaders of the Taliban group in relation to their harsh policies against Afghanistani women.

These concerns of UNICEF are raised while women have been deprived of their most basic rights and faced with mental and emotional crises after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
