The Union of Independent Journalists of Afghanistan has expressed concern over the continued arrest of journalists in Nangarhar, Paktia and Kunduz provinces.

This body asked the Taliban group to “solve the issues related to the work of journalists through the commission of violations and inform about non-media issues to resolve the concerns of the media community.”

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban group, called the reason for the arrest of these journalists “work outside the media” and announced the measures to free these journalists.

Earlier, during the last week, five journalists were arrested in Paktia, Nangarhar, Kunduz and Ghazni provinces.

On the other hand, the arrest of the country’s journalists by the Taliban group has faced a wide wave of reactions from media supporting organizations in the country.

This is while the reports published from different parts of the country indicate that the Taliban group has imposed restrictions on the publication of news material and has prohibited journalists from covering news that is against this group.

At the same time, the repression and unprincipled behavior towards the media and the work of journalists causes the foundation of freedom of expression in the country to be shaken.
