RASC: Following the imposition of restrictions on the Muharram ceremony by the Taliban group, the Afghanistani Shia Scholars Council has demanded the cancellation of these restrictions by the Taliban group in a statement.
This council, in a statement published today, Wednesday, July 19, asked the people to hold the ceremony in a grand manner as in previous years.
Based on this statement, the Council of Shia Scholars held a meeting under the chairmanship of Salehi Modares and with the presence of the Chairman of the Council of Imamiyya Scholars, the Chairman of the Assembly of Shia Scholars and Influentials, the honorable representatives of Ayatollah Azami Sistani, Ayatollah Shirazi, Ayatollah Mohadi Najafi, Ayatollah Hojjat, Ayatollah Waizzada Behsodi and Other honorable scholars were held. While emphasizing the non-acceptance of restrictions, a seven-person delegation was appointed to talk with the authorities and officials of the Taliban group and convey the message of the Shias of Afghanistan to them.
According to this statement, “in the meeting with the above-mentioned delegation, the officials of the Taliban group expressed their decisive decision regarding the imposition of restrictions in some areas of Kabul due to serious security threats. Expressed his serious concern about the consequences of such restrictions”.
Based on the statement of the Shia Scholars Council, “there have been reports from some provinces and cities of the country about restrictions on Muharram programs and ceremonies.”
In this statement, the Taliban group is asked to “reconsider the aforementioned restrictions so that Hussaini’s mourners can perform their ceremonies as in previous years”.
At the end of this statement, the Shia Scholars Council of Afghanistan requested the people to hold the Ashura ceremony as in previous years.
This is despite the fact that the Taliban group removed the Ashura holiday from the country’s calendar and now imposes restrictions on the organizers of the Ashura ceremony, regardless of this religious minority.
