RASC: The World Food Program in Afghanistan has announced that due to lack of financial resources, it has been forced to cut off food aid to eight million people this year.

On Monday, July 10, this organization wrote in a tweet that it urgently needs one billion dollars to continue the aid operation.

WFP’s office in Afghanistan added in its tweet that the organization is the “last resort” across Afghanistan for the “most vulnerable” families, including widows and female-headed families.

Earlier, the representative of the World Food Program in Afghanistan told some media that this year about 15 million people across Afghanistan need food aid.

According to him, at present, this organization affiliated to the United Nations is able to provide assistance to about five million people in need of food aid in Afghanistan, and that’s it.

According to the reports of the organizations affiliated to the United Nations, following the rise of the Taliban group in the month of August/ 2021, the number of people in need of food aid increased rapidly and reached 21 million people.

The World Food Program announced earlier that this organization reduced the number of hungry people to 15 million people providing food packages, but due to lack of financial resources, it is not able to help them anymore.

After the Taliban came to power, international aid to Afghanistan was cut off, unemployment and poverty spread greatly.

One of the leaders of the Taliban group announced that this group did not promise to provide food to the people and that it is “God’s breadwinner”.
