RASC: According to the report of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA), Afghanistan is still the country with the highest level of hunger and malnutrition.
This office wrote in a tweet today, June 21, that nearly 15.5 million people are facing acute food insecurity, including 2.7 million people in an emergency situation.
According to OCHA, nearly 3.2 million children and 840,000 pregnant and lactating mothers suffer from acute, severe and moderate malnutrition.
Meanwhile, the World Food Program says it is facing a budget shortfall.
Carl Skau, the deputy executive director of the World Food Program, in his visit to Afghanistan last week, requested the continuation of humanitarian aid for the Afghanistani people. He said that the world should not turn its back on the Afghanistani people and leave them alone.
According to him, the World Food Program needs 918 million dollars to maintain and continue its activities in the next six months.
He added in a statement that due to the lack of funds, the World Food Program has reduced its food aid, which has led to the deprivation of eight million people in need of aid.
Carl Skau added that the restrictions on women’s work and employment have affected the aid delivery process in Afghanistan.
He said: “We have to find ways to ensure a safe and favorable environment for women and men.”But without adequate funding, we cannot provide the assistance that is desperately needed by girls, boys, women and men across the country.”
It should be mentioned that in a report published about poverty and hunger not too long ago, Afghanistan was among the eleven countries that are facing extreme poverty and hunger.
