RASC News Agency: In the wake of the escalating expulsion of undocumented Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of the Awami National Party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, recently called for granting Pakistani identification documents to Afghanistani refugees who have spent several years in Pakistan.
Achakzai, in a message on social media platform X, stated that many countries in the world grant citizenship to refugees who have lived in their country for an extended period without any criminal record.
He emphasized that similar treatment should be extended to Afghanistani refugees, and the Pakistani government should uphold its commitment to international conventions and protocols regarding refugees.
Pakistani media outlets have reported that thousands of protestors have been staging a sit-in near the Chamman area of Balochistan, Pakistan, for nearly twenty days in response to Islamabad’s recent decisions regarding border issues and the expulsion of undocumented Afghanistani migrants.
It is said that the protestors have been demonstrating in opposition to the decision made by the interim government of Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar to forcibly expel over 1.7 million Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan and implement a single-entry system for the movement of Afghanistani across the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that the interim government of Pakistan has introduced new initiatives regarding border issues and migrants in recent months. Under these initiatives, undocumented migrants are being expelled from Pakistan, and there are also restrictions on the movement of individuals across the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
It is worth mentioning, however, that as a result of Pakistan’s decision, the expelled migrants are facing numerous challenges within Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban group and lack access to basic living necessities.
