RASC: Reporters Without Borders and Amnesty International demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Murtszs Behbodi, a French-Afghanistani journalist, from Taliban custody.

Christophe Delor, Secretary General of Reporters Without Borders, said in a statement on Wednesday, June 7, that Behbodi was arbitrarily arrested by the Taliban and imprisoned for five months without following criminal justice procedures.

Delor also said that the Taliban officials did not provide any evidence to explain why Murtaza Behbodi was kept in prison.

Christophe Delor has asked the Taliban to close this “absurd case once and for all” by immediately releasing Bohdi.

In the statement of the Reporters Without Borders organization, it is stated that Murtaza Behbodhi has been residing in France in recent years and went to Afghanistan on January 5th of this year to prepare a report, but he was arrested while obtaining a media credential.

According to this statement, Reporters without Borders has ensured that Bohodi has been held in a Taliban intelligence detention center since his arrest on the charge of “espionage” without any evidence.

However, Agnes Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, also wrote in a tweet today that the Taliban group has detained Murtaza Behbodi for the past five months without any reason, just because of his journalistic work. Callamard emphasized: “He [Morteza Behbodi] must be released.”

Since coming to power, the Taliban have arrested hundreds of civil activists, journalists, writers and political activists, including women protesters.
