RASC: Fran Ekiza, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, said that many high-level officials of the Taliban group are against the ban on girls’ education above the sixth grade, unless Mullah Hebatullah, the leader of this group, wants to follow this ban.

Mr. Ekiza has recently said in an interview with “EFA” that after many talks with Taliban officials, he found out that “the vast majority of ministers and governors” of this group are against stopping the education of girls after the end of primary education. According to Ekiza, the officials of the Taliban group have said that the decision to cancel the decrees regarding the ban on the education of girls is one of the competences of the leader of this group. “EFA” has written that the ban on girls’ education by the Taliban group has caused about one million girls to be deprived of education. This decision of the Taliban group has been condemned by many countries, including Islamic countries.
