Iran and Turkey Urge Continuation of Taliban–Pakistan Talks Amid Growing Regional Tensions

RASC News Agency: The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, expressing Tehran’s deep concern over the deteriorating situation between the Taliban authorities in Kabul and the government of Pakistan.

In a statement released on Sunday, November 9, the ministry reported that Araghchi underscored the importance of continuing dialogue between the two sides, urging all influential regional countries to play a constructive role in defusing tensions and preventing further escalation. He reiterated Iran’s readiness to provide “any form of assistance” to support peace efforts and promote stability across the region.

According to the statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also emphasized the need for preserving peace and stability, offering an update on the status of the ongoing negotiations between Islamabad and the Taliban regime. Both ministers agreed to maintain diplomatic engagement and coordination to prevent the crisis from worsening.

At the same time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Baku, Azerbaijan, echoed similar concerns. The meeting, held on the sidelines of Azerbaijan’s Victory Day ceremonies, focused on the fragile ceasefire between Pakistan and the Taliban, which has been under mounting strain following a surge in cross-border attacks and militant activity.

In a statement from the Turkish Directorate of Communications, Erdoğan stressed that Ankara is closely monitoring the terrorist attacks inside Pakistan and the rising security tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban regime. He expressed hope that Turkey- and Qatar-mediated peace talks would eventually lead to lasting regional stability. The Turkish leader reaffirmed his country’s commitment to remain actively engaged in the mediation process, adding that Turkey and Pakistan will also strengthen cooperation in trade, energy, and defense industries.

These developments come as the third round of negotiations between representatives of the Taliban regime and Pakistan’s negotiation team held recently in Istanbul collapsed without any tangible outcome or agreement. Following the talks, both sides publicly blamed each other for irresponsibility and for failing to honor prior commitments.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister had earlier warned of serious consequences if the negotiations failed, suggesting that the security situation could deteriorate sharply.

Meanwhile, Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former Special Envoy for Afghanistan, called on his government via his X (Twitter) account to pursue the leadership of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) through Interpol red notices, urging the international policing body to track and apprehend TTP commanders believed to be sheltering inside Afghanistan under Taliban protection.

Durrani stated, “Pakistan must formally designate the TTP leadership and its operatives as wanted criminals and request Interpol to issue red warrants against those enjoying safe havens in Afghanistan.”

Observers note that the Taliban’s failure to curb militant networks, particularly the TTP’s cross-border operations, continues to undermine their legitimacy and fuel regional insecurity. Analysts argue that without effective governance and genuine counterterrorism measures, the Taliban risk isolating Afghanistan further and plunging South and Central Asia into deeper instability.
