Atta Mohammad Noor Reaffirms Support for Anti-Taliban Resistance Fronts

RASC News Agency: Atta Mohammad Noor, the former governor of Balkh, has reiterated his support for the anti-Taliban resistance movements, including the National Resistance Front (NRF) and the Afghanistan Freedom Front. Despite previously criticizing the leadership of these groups, Noor has now reaffirmed his endorsement of their armed struggle against the Taliban. Speaking at a memorial ceremony for Khair Mohammad Khairkhwah, a commander of the National Resistance Front, Noor underscored his commitment to supporting the fight against Taliban rule. “Armed resistance against the Taliban is a necessity, albeit a last resort,” he stated.

During the event, held to mark the second anniversary of Khairkhwah’s death in Andarab, Noor emphasized:

“Advocating for peace does not equate to rejecting the fight for freedom. We not only recognize the struggles of the NRF and the Freedom Front, but we also stand by them and honor their efforts.” He stressed that armed conflict should not be the first option but must remain an alternative if all political avenues are exhausted. “War is not our primary choice, but if every door to negotiation is closed and peace is rendered impossible, then armed resistance becomes inevitable,” he declared.

Noor had previously criticized the resistance leaders, arguing that they should return to Afghanistan and confront the Taliban directly rather than calling for war from abroad. He accused them of fueling conflict without taking tangible action on the ground. However, in his latest remarks, Noor has fully reaffirmed his backing for the anti-Taliban resistance while maintaining that war should be the final measure, pursued only after all diplomatic efforts have failed.
