RASC News Agency: Continuing with the ongoing series of natural events in the country, the Taliban’s security command in Jawzjan province has reported a tragic mountain landslide in Darzab district. Their spokesperson, Abdul Sattar Halimi, revealed that this unfortunate incident took place on Sunday, October 22, in the village of Halqani, Darzab. Regrettably, a two-year-old child lost their life in this calamity, while a man sustained injuries.
Despite previous natural events, the people of the country have been subjected to significant human and financial losses. A recent illustration of this is the mountain slide in Ghor province, which claimed the lives of four individuals. Additionally, the earthquakes in Herat resulted in numerous casualties among the province’s residents. Furthermore, widespread floods in various provinces have caused extensive damage to farmers and the destruction of numerous homes.
Compounding the impact of these natural disasters is their disproportionate effect on the vulnerable segments of society, particularly women and children. Recent calamities have revealed the heightened susceptibility of women and children, further underscoring the importance of addressing their specific needs. For instance, during the Herat earthquake, an alarming 90% of the victims were women and children. Official Dadfar Spanta attributed the high number of casualties among them to the Taliban’s policy of restricting movement outside homes, exacerbating the already dire situation. The discriminatory practices perpetuated by the Taliban, even amidst natural disasters, continue to manifest in stark clarity.
