Mohsin Dawar: The Taliban Do Not Represent the People of Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: Mohsin Dawar, leader of Pakistan’s National Democratic Movement (NDM), has asserted that the Taliban do not represent the Afghanistani people and lack the legitimacy to speak on behalf of the nation. Speaking at the Herat Security Dialogue in Madrid on Monday, Dawar underscored Afghanistan’s long-standing sovereignty and stated that regional powers, particularly Pakistan, have never been true allies of Afghanistan. The 12th Herat Security Conference in Madrid convened former Afghanistan government officials and Pakistani representatives, providing a platform for discussing Afghanistan’s political future. During the event, Dawar emphasized the necessity of international recognition that the Taliban do not reflect the will of the Afghanistani people.

He stressed the critical role of forums like the Herat Security Dialogue, asserting that such platforms are essential for formulating strategic solutions to Afghanistan’s enduring crises. “Afghanistan is grappling with monumental challenges,” Dawar remarked. “In my assessment, no regional power is a true friend of Afghanistan. The devastation of the country has been shaped by the involvement of the United States, Iran, and its neighbor, Pakistan an undeniable and unfortunate reality.” Despite these adversities, Dawar expressed confidence in the resilience of the Afghanistani people, emphasizing that Afghanistanis have historically navigated through hardship and will continue to do so.

A vocal critic of the Taliban, Dawar has repeatedly insisted that any movement advocating for Pashtun rights must first stand against the Taliban. According to him, defending Pashtun identity and rights begins with resisting Taliban oppression.
