RASC News Agency: The Taliban have executed a former local police commander of the previous Afghanistan government in Kandahar, following multiple arrests and periods of detention. Local sources in Kandahar’s Arghandab district report that Taliban militants brutally beat and subsequently killed the former police commander. According to sources, the incident occurred on Saturday, February 1, in the Mianjoy area of Arghandab. The slain commander, Agha Jan, had previously been detained and tortured by the Taliban. Reports indicate that he was at home when Taliban forces targeted him. Since the Taliban’s return to power, Agha Jan had remained in seclusion, refraining from any political or security-related activities.
Meanwhile, Asadullah Jamshid, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Kandahar, claimed that Taliban forces had engaged in a confrontation with a ‘thief’ in Arghandab, resulting in one fatality and one injury. However, he refrained from disclosing the identities of those involved. This is not the first instance in which former government personnel have been subjected to arrest and torture by the Taliban in Kandahar. Sources attribute these detentions to ethnic discrimination and long-standing tribal rivalries. Since reclaiming control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have been widely accused of executing, imprisoning, and torturing former government officials and military personnel, despite their earlier pledges of general amnesty.
While the Taliban persistently deny allegations of arbitrary detentions and extrajudicial killings, numerous reports indicate that individuals continue to be apprehended without formal charges or legal proceedings, further fueling concerns over the group’s oppressive rule.
