RASC: On Wednesday, June 21, the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said that the Taliban regime remained politically “isolated and autocratic” in the Security Council meeting of this organization. In addition, “the composition of the Taliban government is completely male”.
Otunbayeva added in this meeting that UN officials have told the Taliban that it is impossible to recognize this group until all their orders against women and girls removed.
She clarified that the inclusive government is a topic that was also mentioned by the special representatives of the countries for Afghanistan in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in the May meeting of this year.
According to her, the Taliban’s restriction on women’s work has affected the activities of this institution, this group has given no explanation, and the Taliban regarding the removal of restrictions against women and men has made no commitment.
She adds that this is why the United Nations has asked its female employees to stay at home and men to work from home as much as possible.
The head of UNAMA added in the meeting of the United Nations Security Council that the Taliban asked them to appoint male employees instead of female employees, but the United Nations rejected this request of the Taliban. Addressing the members of the UN Security Council, Otunbayeva said that the judgement of the Taliban are “very unpopular” among the Afghanistani people.
According to her, the Taliban’s restrictions on women have led to economic problems in Afghanistan and affected humanitarian aid.
It should be mentioned that after the Taliban group control of the power in Afghanistan, this group has imposed many restrictions on the social life of girls and women in the country.
Meanwhile, the latest report of the Global Gender Gap Index also shows that Afghanistan has the lowest score after Chad in terms of progress in the field of gender equality and women’s participation in various sectors of society.
