RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar province report that the Taliban have detained two former soldiers of the previous government, along with one of their own fighters, on charges of involvement in an explosion that occurred two days ago. On Tuesday, January 28, sources confirmed that the arrests took place the previous day in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province. According to these sources, the detainees have been transferred to an undisclosed location. The arrested individuals have been identified as Hafizullah, Jabar Baloch, and Qari Ehsanullah, all of whom are residents of Takhar. The sources revealed that the Taliban accused them of orchestrating an explosion near the provincial government building in Takhar.
The Taliban have not yet issued a statement regarding these arrests. However, in the past three days, the group has ramped up its detention campaign in Takhar, arresting at least ten individuals from various areas of the province. Over the last three and a half years, the Taliban have systematically arrested, imprisoned, tortured, and executed tens of thousands of young Tajiks under fabricated accusations of membership in the previous government’s security forces, collaboration with resistance movements, or affiliation with ISIS.
These detentions and killings have predominantly targeted Tajik-majority provinces, particularly Panjshir, the Northern regions, and other areas in Northern and Northeastern Afghanistan. Notably, more than 24,000 young men from Panjshir and Andarab both predominantly Tajik regions are currently held in the Taliban’s ethnically driven detention centers. Reports indicate that these prisoners face some of the most brutal and inhumane treatment imaginable under the Taliban’s oppressive regime.
