Taliban Execute Man in Front of His Child in Badakhshan

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Badakhshan province report that Taliban fighters have executed a man at a checkpoint in the northern region of Afghanistan. On Thursday, December 12, the 53-year-old victim, identified as Sardar Mohammad, was shot dead near the Faizabad airport, the provincial capital, following a heated verbal exchange with Taliban members. Eyewitnesses confirm that Sardar Mohammad, a baker and the sole provider for a family of nine, was brutally killed in front of his five-year-old daughter. The child, who witnessed her father’s murder, is reportedly experiencing severe psychological trauma. Sardar Mohammad was buried the following day in Faizabad.

The Taliban have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, over the past three years, Taliban forces in Badakhshan have been accused of systematically targeting civilians, often executing or disappearing individuals under various allegations. According to local sources, 98 individuals were abducted by masked men in a single district of the province during the Taliban’s rule, with their whereabouts still unknown. Since their return to power, the Taliban have frequently used checkpoints as a tool for intimidation and extrajudicial killings. In a similar incident in October, Taliban fighters killed a young man at a checkpoint in District 4 of Herat city.

The ongoing violence underscores the Taliban’s systematic campaign of repression, particularly in provinces like Badakhshan, where dissent and resistance remain prevalent.
