RASC News Agency: According to local sources in Kunar province, the Taliban have shut down two educational centers for girls, with the closure set to continue until further notice. Reports from Sunday, November 10, indicate that these two centers, located in the Ghaziabad district, have been closed since last Wednesday. The centers, funded by the “Gates” aid organization, provided both modern and religious education to female students who had completed grade twelve, taught by female instructors. Taliban officials reportedly issued a stark warning to administrators, stating that any attempt to defy the closure order would result in severe punishment.
Additional reports suggest that the Taliban had demanded payment from the centers’ administrators in exchange for permission to continue operations. Despite this, Taliban officials in Kunar have so far refrained from commenting on the closures. Since their return to power, the Taliban have systematically denied Afghanistani girls the right to education. Multiple reports have documented similar closures of girls’ educational centers across Afghanistan.
Motivated by tribal customs and the strict Pashtunwali code, the Taliban are fundamentally opposed to education, employment, and any public presence for women. Under this worldview, a woman’s role is confined to domestic responsibilities, with her primary duties seen as cooking and childbearing. Upon regaining power, the Taliban swiftly moved to lock the doors of schools and universities to girls nationwide, effectively barring them from work and public life.
