Two Young Men Murdered in Herat and Nangarhar

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Nangarhar and Herat have reported the killings of two young men in separate incidents within these provinces, both committed by unidentified assailants. On Thursday, October 24, it was revealed that one young man was killed the previous day in the Goshta district of Nangarhar, attacked with an axe.

Sources indicate that this young man, a Quran memorizer, was murdered while returning home from the mosque. Similarly, in Herat, a 27-year-old man was killed. Employed as a guard for one of the telecommunications network antennas, the young man was fatally stabbed at his post in the village of Rizak, Karukh district, on the night of October 22.

The motives behind these two murders remain unclear. As of yet, Taliban officials in Nangarhar and Herat have refrained from commenting on these events. Observers note that Taliban authorities frequently remain silent regarding such criminal incidents. It is also notable that criminal activity in various parts of the country has surged to unprecedented levels in recent days.

In a related incident, a few days ago, a 24-year-old woman in Herat was stabbed to death by her brother. Poverty, psychological distress, unemployment, and the Taliban’s abuse of power have been cited as some of the primary drivers behind these incidents. Despite this, the Taliban often fail to acknowledge such brutal acts and, in many cases, coerce the families of the victims into silence, preventing them from reporting these crimes.
