Statement from the Moscow Format Meeting: Taliban Must Act Without Discrimination Against Terrorist Groups

RASC News Agency: The statement from the sixth Moscow Format meeting has urged the Taliban to undertake actions aimed at dismantling and eliminating terrorist groups in Afghanistan in an equitable and non-discriminatory manner. Participants of the meeting declared in a statement released yesterday Friday, October 4, after the conclusion of the sixth Moscow Format meeting that terrorist and separatist groups operating in Afghanistan continue to pose a serious threat to global and regional security.

The declaration called on the Taliban to implement visible and verifiable measures in the fight against terrorism and to prevent the use of Afghanistan territory against neighboring countries, the region, and beyond. The statement emphasized that the Taliban must guarantee that Afghanistan will not be utilized to launch attacks against its neighbors and the region. It was noted that terrorist groups and those opposed to neighboring governments are active within Afghanistan, and their presence poses a significant threat to these countries.

Furthermore, the declaration expressed concern over the attempts of third countries to establish military infrastructure in Afghanistan and its neighboring countries, asserting that such developments are detrimental to peace and stability in the region and the world. However, it did not specify which country is seeking to establish its military infrastructure in Afghanistan or its neighbors. The participants expressed their expectation that the Taliban would form a moderate, cautious, and inclusive government to safeguard the rights and fundamental interests of all Afghanistani people, including women, girls, and all ethnic groups, while continuing to strive for the welfare of the Afghanistani populace.

However, these expectations have yet to be fulfilled. This situation arises in the context of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, during which several terrorist groups have begun to operate alongside them in the country. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Al-Qaeda are among the groups that have received support from the Taliban.
