RASC News Agency: Local sources in Baghlan have reported the detention of Mohammad Iqbal, a former member of the Afghanistan army, and Abdul Qadeer, a former jihadist commander, by Taliban forces in the provinces of Khost and Farang. According to these sources, the arrests occurred on Monday, September 22. Reports indicate that the Taliban apprehended these individuals on charges of theft related to an incident that took place a year ago. However, another source claims that the theft was orchestrated by the Taliban themselves, suggesting that they are using this incident as a pretext for the arrests and subsequent imprisonment.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and other independent international organizations have reported that the Taliban have consistently harassed, intimidated, and detained former Afghanistan security personnel over the past three years. The Taliban’s leader recently acknowledged that some prisoners have been killed within the group’s facilities.
Over the past three years, the Taliban have arrested and executed thousands of citizens, particularly Tajiks, from the northern provinces on various charges. According to credible reports, over ninety percent of the Taliban’s current prisoners are Tajiks, detained for opposing the group or allegedly being members of the National Resistance Front and the Freedom Front, with many having been killed by the Taliban. Mullah Haibatullah, the group’s elusive leader, confirmed last week that thousands of individuals have gone missing from the regime’s prisons.
