RASC News Agency: Tariq Ali Bakheet, the Special Envoy of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for Afghanistan, recently held discussions with Cihad Erginay, Turkey’s former ambassador to Kabul and the Director General for South Asia at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, regarding the evolving situation in Afghanistan. According to an official statement from the OIC, the meeting centered on Afghanistan’s political, economic, and humanitarian challenges, with an emphasis on enhancing cooperation between the two entities in addressing these pressing issues.
The statement underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement to support the Afghanistani people and advance “constructive dialogue with the Taliban.” Both parties reportedly exchanged perspectives and strategies aimed at tackling critical concerns within the framework of relevant OIC resolutions. During the meeting, Bakheet highlighted Turkey’s significant role in facilitating the implementation of OIC objectives in Afghanistan. The statement further noted that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining open channels of communication and fostering collaborative efforts in pursuit of shared goals, including peace, stability, and economic resilience in Afghanistan.
However, it is noteworthy that both the OIC and the Erdoğan administration have consistently advocated for the preservation of religious autocratic regimes in the region, particularly in Afghanistan. Instead of exerting meaningful pressure on the Taliban to dismantle ethnic and ideological oppression, end the systemic marginalization of women, reopen schools and universities for Afghanistani girls, and create employment opportunities for the country’s educated workforce, their approach appears to focus on reinforcing Taliban rule rather than challenging its repressive policies.
