RASC News Agency: Following the proposal by several nations to prosecute the Taliban at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for severe human rights violations and gender-based discrimination against women and ethnic groups in Afghanistan, the Supreme National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan has expressed strong support. On Saturday, September 28, the council released a statement endorsing the decision by Germany, Australia, the Netherlands, and Canada to hold the Taliban accountable in international court.
The statement declared, “As the largest political coalition opposing the Taliban, the Supreme National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan welcomes this initiative, viewing it as a crucial step toward restoring human rights and freedoms in Afghanistan, as well as a pathway to ending the ongoing gender-based apartheid in the country.” The council also raised concerns that practical measures against the Taliban might once again be used as a “bargaining chip” by various nations solely focused on advancing their own political interests, thereby compromising the integrity of the initiative.
The council called upon all segments of Afghanistani society to rally behind the proposal and ensure it is not neglected. Additionally, the National Resistance Council emphasized that the Taliban has blatantly provided a conducive environment for the activities and training of various terrorist groups, effectively turning Afghanistan into a safe haven for a multitude of extremist factions. It is noteworthy that this proposal has thus far received the backing of over 25 nations worldwide.
