Australian Foreign Minister: The Taliban Have Erased Women from Society

RASC News Agency: In her address at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong declared that the Taliban have systematically removed women from Afghanistani society. Wong stressed that the “effective imprisonment” of half a nation’s population severely cripples its potential. She stated, “No country can fully develop without the full participation of all its people.”

Since their takeover, the Taliban have banned women from work, education, and public life, even denying them the right to learn. The regime has gone so far as to label women leaving their homes as a source of disorder and their voices as shameful. Minister Wong also noted that Australia, in collaboration with Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands, is pursuing legal action against the Taliban at the International Court of Justice for their gross violations of women’s rights.

The Taliban, however, have consistently denied these accusations, asserting that they respect the rights of all citizens, particularly women, in accordance with Islamic Sharia law, and remain committed to upholding these rights. The group has further dismissed the global outcry over women’s rights as an internal matter, urging other nations to refrain from interfering in Afghanistan’s domestic issues.

Nevertheless, Afghanistani women and the wider public claim they are being subjugated under Taliban rule, with their fundamental rights systematically stripped away. Since regaining control, the Taliban have established an ethnically exclusive government and have imposed their authority on the Afghanistani people through coercion and force.
