RASC News Agency: Sara Adams, a former CIA officer, asserts that the Taliban have surrendered Mahmood Shah Habibi, an Afghanistani-American citizen, to Al-Qaeda, which has allegedly resolved to execute him. Adams recently made these remarks, noting that Al-Qaeda has concluded that it will put him on trial and carry out the execution. On Saturday, September 21, she cautioned on her X account that if the United States does not take immediate action, Al-Qaeda will proceed with the execution.
Habibi was detained in August 2022 along with 29 other employees of “ARX Communications” by the Taliban. He served as the head of the Civil Aviation Authority under the previous Afghanistan government and was arrested just one day after the killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri, the former leader of Al-Qaeda, in Sherpur, Kabul. The Taliban have accused the company of aiding the U.S. government in targeting al-Zawahiri.
Previously, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban, stated that discussions had been held with U.S. representatives regarding a potential prisoner exchange. Mujahid indicated that the release of Mahajir al-Afghani, a Taliban prisoner held at Guantanamo Bay, was among the conditions for the release of detained U.S. citizens held by the group. Now, the former CIA officer contends that the Taliban have misled the U.S. government regarding Habibi’s detention and their support for Al-Qaeda.
Adams criticized U.S. cooperation with the Taliban in the fight against terrorism, stating that “our government also regards the Taliban as an anti-terrorism ally in Afghanistan.” David Cohen further claimed that dire predictions about Afghanistan becoming a launching pad for global terrorist attacks have proven to be unfounded.
