U.S. Lawmakers Call for Halt on Aid to Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: According to a report by Fox News, several Republican lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives are pushing forward a new bill aimed at suspending U.S. aid to Afghanistan due to concerns over the “interception” of funds by the Taliban. Republican Congressman Josh Brecheen remarked, “The catastrophic withdrawal orchestrated by the Biden-Harris administration has plunged Afghanistan back into Taliban control, and it is now evident that American taxpayer dollars are being exploited to benefit the Taliban.”

Brecheen underscored the necessity of passing this legislation to ensure that U.S. taxpayer money is no longer misused in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. The United States remains one of the largest contributors of aid to Afghanistan. According to Fox News, the U.S. has already allocated $21 billion to support Afghan refugees who were evacuated following the U.S. withdrawal.

Fox News further reveals that the Taliban have seized control of several non-governmental organizations (NGOs), resulting in U.S. financial aid indirectly falling into Taliban hands. Since the Taliban’s return to power, the United Nations has transferred $2.9 billion in cash to Afghanistan, part of which is alleged to have been appropriated by the Taliban.

Previously, Republican Congressman Timothy Burchett, in an interview with Fox News, stated, “With a national debt of $35 trillion, we cannot afford to fund our enemies.” He went on to criticize the U.S. State Department for its failure to block Taliban access to U.S. humanitarian aid designated for Afghanistan. In a post on X, he wrote, “The State Department needs to be dismantled and rebuilt from scratch.”
