Malala Yousafzai: Governments Must Hold the Taliban Accountable for Their Crimes

RASC News Agency: Nobel Peace Prize laureate and prominent advocate for girls’ education, Malala Yousafzai, in a video message shared on her Instagram, urged governments worldwide to hold the Taliban accountable for their heinous crimes. She declared, “I, along with many of our global allies, will continue to stand by you in this fight to ensure the Taliban are held to account. People across the world hear your voice and stand in solidarity with you. We will not rest until your rights are fully restored.”

Marking three years since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, Yousafzai underscored that their ban on girls above the sixth grade from attending school is part of a “brutal and deeply misogynistic campaign” aimed at erasing women and girls from education, work, and public life. In her message to the women of Afghanistan, she stated, “While the Taliban seek to bar you from schools and erase your presence in the public sphere, you continue to stand firm in defiance of their crimes. Your courage is an immense source of inspiration to me and countless others around the globe.”

It is important to note that it has now been three years since the Taliban re-established control over Afghanistan, during which time they have imposed severe restrictions, including barring girls from attending school beyond sixth grade. Recently, Neda Mohammad Nadeem, the acting Minister of Higher Education for the Taliban, announced that even questioning the issue of women’s education is banned “until further notice.”
