Impacts of Elite Migration: A New Book by Five University Professors

RASC News Agency: A research book titled “Factors and Consequences of Migration in Afghanistan” has been unveiled by the Council of Experts in Herat province. This book, authored by five university professors and researchers, explores the causes of elite migration and the brain drain from the country.

According to the research, economic challenges, lack of job security, and the closure of schools and universities to girls are the primary reasons for the migration of the nation’s elites. Mohammad Rafiq Shaheer, the head of the Herat Council of Experts, remarked, “Losing one of our elites, especially under these conditions, takes a long time to replace. Training a new doctor, engineer, or university professor is a lengthy process.”

The book offers recommendations to the Taliban government to prevent brain drain and the migration of elites and skilled individuals, as well as to create conditions for their return to the country.

The research indicates that over the past three years, several European countries, the United States, and Canada have hosted thousands of Afghanistani migrants. Most of these migrants include university professors, students, experts, and competent employees of the former government.
