RASC News Agency: The Ministry of Immigration in Canada has recently declared its commitment to provide $21 million to support vulnerable Afghanistani refugees in Pakistan and Central Asian countries. In a press release issued by the Ministry of Immigration Canada on Saturday, December 16th, Mark Miller, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, discussed these aid initiatives at the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva. As stated in this press release, Canada’s assistance aims to help neighboring countries of Afghanistan better support Afghanistani refugees, providing them with improved conditions.
The press release specifies that the allocated assistance is intended to support Afghanistani refugees in neighboring countries through the International Organization for Migration. This initiative comes as, following the Taliban’s takeover of the country, a significant number of Afghanistani citizens have migrated to neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan and Iran, due to emerging crises and security threats from this group. Reports indicate that, since then, 40,000 Afghanistani refugees have been relocated from Pakistan and some regional countries to Canada, and the Ministry of Immigration in Canada has announced plans to resettle an additional 136,000 refugees in the country within the next three years.
According to the ministry, Canada maintains its commitment to protecting and resettling vulnerable groups, encompassing women in unsafe conditions, religious and ethnic minorities, Rohingya refugees, human rights defenders, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Canada makes this commitment at a time when regional countries and neighbors have intensified the forced expulsion of Afghanistani refugees, expelling thousands of Afghanistani refugees from their respective countries.
