Over 177,000 Job Applications Filed Last Year; Taliban Sympathizers Succeeded

RASC News Agency: Officials at the Taliban’s National Examination Authority report that during the last solar year, approximately 177,020 individuals participated in competitive examinations in hopes of securing positions within the Taliban-controlled administration. Today, August 31, during a Taliban accountability session, officials noted that a number of these applicants successfully secured employment within various government departments.

According to the officials, the Taliban’s National Examination Authority conducted a total of 58 collective examinations across different governmental bodies last year. They also referenced the 2024 Kankor (university entrance) exam, stating that admission cards were printed for 97,917 candidates. However, the authority did not disclose the exact number of participants in the 2024 Kankor exam.

Meanwhile, citizens assert that the primary criteria for employment under the Taliban’s administration is being a Taliban member or sharing the group’s ideology. Those who do not resemble the Taliban in appearance or who do not speak Pashto are reportedly unlikely to succeed in these examinations. It is alleged that the Taliban often preselect one of their members or ethnic supporters for a position before publicly announcing the vacancy. As a result, thousands of individuals are left vying for a position that has already been filled by a Taliban affiliate, bypassing any competitive process.
