RASC News Agency: Rafaela Adis, the interim head of the European Union mission in Afghanistan, recently announced that the EU is undertaking the reconstruction of 400 schools in the country to elevate the education system. In a statement from the Taliban’s Ministry of Education, Ms. Adis, during a meeting with Habibullah Agha, the interim minister of the ministry, emphasized the imperative collaboration in Afghanistan’s education sector. Citing the interim head of the EU mission in Afghanistan, the Taliban’s Ministry of Education affirmed their commitment to expanding Community-Based Schools (CBS) nationwide, aiming to address the educational needs of out-of-school children.
According to information from officials, these 400 schools have undergone reconstruction in both central and provincial areas of Afghanistan, now actively serving the public. It is crucial to highlight that the European Union recently declared a contribution of 142.8 million euros to assist Afghanistan in fortifying essential services and livelihoods, with a specific focus on the education sector. This unfolds at a time when Afghanistani citizens consistently voice concerns about the shortage of schools and educational centers across the country, expressing apprehension about the impact on their children’s future.
It is imperative to mention that the reconstruction of these schools in Afghanistan commences amidst restrictions on girls above the sixth grade from attending schools in the country. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that following the Taliban’s seizure of power in Afghanistan, numerous restrictions were imposed on women and girls, leading to the prevention of girls from attending schools and universities.
