RASC News Agency: Iranian authorities have announced that over the past four months, the government has expelled 56,356 Afghanistani migrants, primarily through the border shared with Afghanistan’s Nimroz province. Iranian media reports indicate that these migrants were deported between March 21 and July 21 of this year.
It is noteworthy that last year, the border commander of Iran’s Khorasan Razavi province reported the expulsion of 7,563 Afghanistani migrants through the Taibad border. However, in recent years, the Iranian government’s stance towards Afghanistani migrants has shifted significantly, especially as many citizens sought refuge in Iran following the Taliban’s return to power, coinciding with Iran’s own economic challenges.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) previously estimated that over 3 million Afghanistani migrants reside in Iran. However, Iranian government reports confirm that the number of Afghanistani migrants in the country exceeds 6 million. Afghanistani migrants face numerous barriers in Iran due to government policies and prevalent societal perceptions, including limited access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
Iran’s government continues to expel Afghanistani migrants, claiming to improve their situation, all while supporting the Taliban regime, which upholds ethnic, tribal, gender-based, and terrorist policies.
