Taliban’s Exploitation of Afghanistani Women: A Call for Human Rights

RASC News Agency: Human Rights Watch has issued a stern warning to the Taliban, urging them to cease their systemic exploitation of women’s rights in Afghanistan. The international organization highlighted the ongoing repression faced by millions of Afghanistani women and girls, who are systematically denied their rights to education and participation in sports.

As the 2024 Paris Olympics unfold, Human Rights Watch underscored the poignant contrast between the Afghan female athletes competing on the world stage and the countless girls in Afghanistan who are barred from pursuing education or engaging in sports. The organization stated, “The Taliban must halt these abuses and revoke the restrictions imposed on women’s fundamental rights.”

The report emphasized the necessity of restoring the basic rights of Afghanistani women, condemning the Taliban’s exploitation. Since their takeover in August 2021, the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions, depriving women and girls of almost all basic freedoms and enforcing strict limitations across various spheres of life. Among the Taliban’s oppressive measures are the prohibition of education for girls beyond the sixth grade and the closure of universities to female students. In the nearly three years of their rule, they have also excluded girls from the national university entrance exam (Kankor), conducting it without the presence of any female students.

The Taliban’s archaic views towards women are clear, treating them as subordinate to men and denying them the right to education and employment. Under Taliban rule, women are not permitted to pursue careers or take up any form of employment, reflecting a profound disregard for women’s rights and dignity.
