RASC News Agency: In the aftermath of the severe storm and heavy rainfall two days ago in Nangarhar, ten members of a single family perished. These family members, gathered to celebrate the birth of a child, were all swept away by the storm and subsequent floods. Among the victims were six children, three women, and one man.
This tragic event occurred on Monday during a storm and heavy rainfall in Nangarhar, which claimed the lives of 45 individuals and left 350 others injured. One of the victims, named Wajid, who had married two years ago, had recently become a father for the second time. Nearly two months ago, his child was born. Wajid’s sister-in-law, along with her four children, had come to visit her newborn nephew.
However, the sudden storm and flood resulting from the heavy rainfall took Wajid and all his family members away. A close family member of Wajid said, “They were so happy for the newborn, but the flood washed away their joy.” They perished amid the celebration of the newborn’s birth and in the midst of their happiness.
At first, the flood carried away Wajid and his two children. His wife’s three sisters, along with their four children, also succumbed to this disaster. Wajid’s house, once filled with joy and celebration for the newborn, suddenly turned into a place of mourning. A relative of Wajid stated, “This family is so devastated that it will take a long time for them to recover. They do not have the means to rebuild their lives, homes, or family.”
Now, the burden of grief over Wajid and the nine other family members will be borne by his wife and father. Wajid was a daily wage laborer, earning around 200 kabuli rupees per day by working in other people’s fields. He was the sole breadwinner for his family. In this storm and flood, many lost their lives and many more were injured. Joy turned to sorrow, and lives were destroyed.
Wajid was one of the victims who lost ten family members, leaving the burden of survival on one woman.
