RASC News Agency: Local sources in Badakhshan report that Saeed Ahmad, the former police chief of Darayim District, and his son sustained injuries in an attack by unidentified gunmen. According to reports, the assailants targeted Ahmad on Friday night, leaving both him and his son wounded. Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers not only opened fire on the former police official but also looted approximately 1.3 million Kabuli rupees in cash along with a substantial amount of gold. Following the attack, the victims were rushed to a hospital in Kunduz province for urgent medical care.
Thus far, the Taliban authorities have remained silent regarding the incident. However, this attack comes amid persistent accusations that the Taliban continue to persecute former security personnel, despite their claims of a general amnesty. While these assassinations are often attributed to unknown gunmen, the Taliban maintain that they are the sole armed group operating in Afghanistan and insist they have established nationwide security. Contrary to Taliban claims, the rising wave of targeted assassinations and orchestrated attacks suggests otherwise.
The continued elimination of former government and security officials raises two critical possibilities: either the Taliban are directly complicit in these killings, or Afghanistan, under their rule, has descended into lawlessness, where individuals especially former officials live under constant threat of assassination by unidentified armed factions. Moreover, national and international reports confirm that the Taliban provide safe haven to multiple terrorist organizations, granting them access to military training facilities across various provinces. These groups reportedly receive financial, logistical, and political backing from the Taliban, further destabilizing Afghanistan and undermining regional security.
