Faizabad’s 60-Bed Obstetric Hospital Ceases Operations

RASC News Agency: Sources from the provincial hospital in Badakhshan report that the 60-bed obstetric hospital in Faizabad has been closed to patients for the past week, offering no services. On Monday, July 8, sources informed the media that 73 employees of the hospital, including four specialists and several doctors, have lost their jobs and are now at home.

According to the sources, with the closure of the 60-bed obstetric hospital, only a 30-bed government unit within the provincial hospital remains operational to serve mothers. Despite the presence of two specialists and several volunteer nurses in this unit, they are unable to adequately meet the needs of patients.

Reports indicate that nearly 100 patients visit this section daily for childbirth and treatment of other women’s health issues, but it is impossible to attend to all of them comprehensively. Since the recent changes in the country, the healthcare system has faced numerous challenges, including a shortage of doctors and medicines due to decreased humanitarian aid, and these problems are worsening daily.

Moreover, due to the lack of proper medical facilities and specialized doctors in the country, many patients seek treatment in neighboring countries.
