The Plight of Afghanistani Journalists in Iran and Pakistan is Alarming

RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Journalists Support Organization (AJSO) reports that Afghanistani journalists in Iran and Pakistan are enduring “dire and alarming” conditions. In a statement released by AJSO on Wednesday, July 3, it was revealed that journalists in these countries are not having their visas extended and are receiving no economic or humanitarian assistance.

The statement reads: “These concerns have intensified, particularly as many journalists who hoped to be relocated to France have faced collective rejection from that country, a situation unprecedented in the past three years.” The organization further noted that returning to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan would be “lethal” for these journalists.

Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, a significant number of journalists were forced to flee due to security and economic concerns, seeking asylum abroad. Moreover, journalists currently residing in Afghanistan continue to face mistreatment by the Taliban.

Reports indicate that since the Taliban’s rise to power, many media outlets have ceased operations due to economic hardships and the restrictive environment imposed by the Taliban.
