Increasing number of suicides in Afghanistan

RASC: According to media reports, at least 347 people have committed suicide in 9 provinces of the country in the past year, and 60 of them have died.

Based on the findings, Badakhshan province is in the first place with 251 cases of attempted suicide.

According to the sources, 14 people in Ghor province, 11 people in Khost province, 7 people in Sarpol province, 5 people in Nangarhar province, 5 people in Maidan Wardak province, 3 people in Bamyan province, 2 people in Uruzgan province and 1 A person committed suicide in Kapisa province in the past year and ended their life.

A 20-year-old woman who is a resident of Argoi city, Badakhshan province, tried to end her life by drinking acid due to family problems, but she was saved from death after being transferred to the hospital.
Homayoun Froutan, head of Badakhshan hospital, said: “We have registered 250 cases in the hospital that attempted suicide and committed suicide, of which 188 are female and 62 are male.”

Sediqullah Shahin, the security governor of the Taliban group for Bamyan province, told the media: “This year, we have three cases of suicide, and the reason and motivation for these suicides was family violence.”

Mustafa Haqqani, from the Taliban group for Ghor province, said: “There have been 14 suicide cases, which were caused by poverty, economy, and family problems.”

At the same time, some officials and psychiatrists mention poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and family violence as the root causes of such events.

Qadir Bran, a specialist in mental diseases, said: “Suicides are mostly caused by family violence. Poverty, ignorance, illiteracy, people’s lack of knowledge, homelessness and unemployment are the causes of it.

According to some officials in Badakhshan and Takhar provinces, recently a woman ended her life due to family violence in Faizabad city and a man committed suicide by shooting himself in Yengi Qala city of Takhar province.
