Nada Al-Nashif: Urgent Attention Needed for Afghanistani Women

RASC News Agency: Nada Al-Nashif, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations, emphasized at the 56th session of the Human Rights Council that Afghanistani women and girls urgently require assistance and attention from the international community. On Tuesday, June 18, Al-Nashif expressed deep concern over the current situation in Afghanistan, highlighting widespread human rights violations in the country.

For the past three years, Afghanistani women and girls have held gatherings and street protests in an effort to reclaim their lost rights, but the Taliban remain unresponsive to their pleas. The Human Rights Council session, held in Geneva, focused on examining human rights violations in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. International organizations and human rights groups have previously called for global support for Afghanistani women.

Since the Taliban’s takeover, Afghanistani women have been stripped of their rights and freedoms. They have lost the right to work, pursue education, and enjoy basic liberties. Over two years have passed since the Taliban’s resurgence, yet schools and universities remain closed to girls.
