Hiring of Female Teachers in Ghazni Girls’ Schools Postponed Indefinitely

RASC News Agency: Sources from Ghazni Province report that the Taliban’s Ministry of Education has recently postponed the hiring of female teachers in girls’ schools as part of its ongoing restrictions on female education. On Thursday, June 13, sources informed the media that, according to the Taliban’s Ministry of Education, the recruitment of female teachers has been halted by the education directorate in Ghazni and may soon extend to other provinces.

A female applicant, who had registered for a teaching position in Nawur District of Ghazni, reported that while the Taliban’s education directorate conducted exams for male applicants yesterday, female candidates were told to wait indefinitely. Sources indicate that, per this directive which might be implemented broadly the competitive examination process for appointing female teachers in girls’ schools has been suspended for an unspecified period.

It remains unclear whether this directive is intended to be applied universally or solely within Ghazni Province. The Taliban’s Ministry of Education has yet to provide an explanation for this new directive. It should be noted that, in less than three years, the Taliban have imposed increasingly severe restrictions on women’s education, employment, and general rights.
