RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced the sale of 20,000 tons of crude oil from the Angot field in the Amu Darya Basin, situated in Sar-e Pol province, for over $10.54 million. This volume of crude oil was auctioned on Sunday, June 9, during a bidding ceremony at the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum in Kabul, attended by representatives from 10 companies.
Humayun Afghan, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry, declared on the social media platform X that in the past 10 days, they have sold 130,000 tons of crude oil from the Amu Darya Basin. Given the Taliban’s lack of national and international legitimacy, they are not authorized under international conventions to engage in contracts concerning the country’s national assets.
Reports suggest that during their nearly three-year rule, the Taliban have inked agreements for several major mines with both domestic and foreign entities. Since seizing power, the Taliban have confronted significant economic hurdles and are endeavoring to sustain their regime through the extraction of minerals and natural resources.
