RASC News Agency: Reports from Afghanistan’s southwestern provinces reveal that the salaries of provincial governors in these regions range between 50,000 and 100,000 kabuli rupees. A local source in Farah Province, speaking under the condition of anonymity, informed RASC News Agency on Thursday, May 30, that the governors of southern and western Afghanistan earn salaries between 50,000 and 100,000 kabuli rupees, supplemented by additional benefits from key revenue-generating departments.
These departments include customs, oil, transport, and other significant offices. According to the source, one reason these governors maintain their positions is the perks they receive from their superiors. The source stated that corruption has not been eradicated from Afghanistan and is now primarily orchestrated by the Taliban. Another source in Herat Province told RASC News Agency that the covert operations of senior Taliban officials have created widespread challenges for the populace, leaving the nation bewildered by their objectives.
This source explained that high-ranking Taliban officials in western Afghanistan have seized significant provincial posts and will maintain these positions throughout their rule, serving as governors, commanders, and district officials. The source further noted that these senior Taliban officials remain in their posts due to their close relationships with their leader.
Ramim Rustami, a civil activist in western Afghanistan, confirmed that high-ranking Taliban officials in these provinces will retain their importance as long as they continue to be useful. Rustami added that since the Taliban’s takeover, many officials have served in various capacities, with some currently imprisoned and others dismissed.
The Taliban have yet to comment on this matter. However, previous reports have also highlighted financial corruption among Taliban members in various provinces.
