On Wednesday, July 25, sources revealed that the victim, Abdul Awal, resided in the first district of Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province. The Taliban reportedly dragged him out of his house and, after a brief confrontation, executed him. The incident occurred on Sunday night.
According to these sources, Abdul Awal’s body remains in the possession of the Taliban and has not been returned to his family. The motive behind this incident is unclear, and the victim’s family has not commented on the matter. Similarly, Taliban officials in Takhar have also refrained from making any statements regarding the incident. Earlier today, the Taliban arrested a former military officer in the Farkhar district of Takhar and transferred him to Kunduz province.
Since taking control of the country, the Taliban have been carrying out extrajudicial killings, targeting many individuals based on their Tajik ethnicity, subjecting them to detention, torture, and execution. Over the past three years of Taliban rule, the majority of these extrajudicial killings have occurred in Tajik-majority areas such as Panjshir, Badakhshan, Parwan, Kapisa, and Takhar. Former soldiers from these provinces have been arbitrarily detained and tortured by the Taliban.
Life has become increasingly perilous for former military personnel under the Taliban regime. They live in constant fear, whether openly or covertly, facing threats to their lives. Many former soldiers have been detained on various pretexts and charges. Additionally, civilians are frequently arrested on various grounds, often based on ethnic discrimination.
