RASC News Agency: Reports from the central prison in Herat province, western Afghanistan, indicate that prisoners are being subjected to severe beatings and torture by Taliban special forces during the night. A reliable source in Herat, speaking on condition of anonymity, told RASC News Agency on Sunday, May 18, that the Taliban take advantage of the night to remove certain prisoners from Herat Central Prison and subject them to intense torture at undisclosed locations.
The source added that most of those tortured by the Taliban are anti-Taliban figures and former government forces. According to the source, some prisoners have died under Taliban torture, and this brutal treatment of Herat’s inmates is not an isolated incident. Another anonymous source in western Afghanistan told RASC News Agency that the psychological and emotional state of the prisoners is far worse than generally assumed.
This source reported that the fate of many prisoners in Herat Central Prison is unknown, and their families are kept in the dark about their condition. The source warned that if the Taliban continue their torturous practices, the repercussions will eventually affect all members of the group. The source emphasized that the atrocities and crimes committed by the Taliban are beyond imagination.
Zalmai Haqiqi, a university professor in Afghanistan, told RASC News Agency that the Taliban’s use of oppression and torture only incites public anger. Haqiqi stated that the Taliban should treat other societal groups with humanity and in accordance with Islamic principles, aligning their actions with religious teachings.
He warned that unless the Taliban reduce their crimes and tyranny against the people, divine retribution will befall them and their supporters. It is noteworthy that the Taliban’s central prison in Herat is one of the largest prisons in Afghanistan, comprising 19 blocks and housing over three thousand inmates.
