RASC News Agency: The House of Free Speech announced that Ahmad Shah Almyar, the host of the private television channel Rah-e-Farda, was detained by Taliban intelligence forces in Ghazni Province a week ago.

According to a statement released by the House of Free Speech on Thursday, May 20, the organization urged the Taliban to release Ahmad Shah Almyar immediately.

The statement indicates that after his arrest in Ghazni Province, the Taliban transferred the journalist to Kabul. Those close to the journalist report that Almyar is currently held at the Taliban’s Forty Directorate of Intelligence in Kabul. The Taliban have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and it’s unclear on what charges Ahmad Shah Almyar was detained.

Over the past three years, the Taliban have imposed increasing restrictions on media operations and journalists, resulting in a number of arrests, imprisonments, and reports of torture.
