Organization of Islamic Cooperation Calls for Formation of Inclusive Government in Afghanistan

RASC News Agency: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has emphasized the importance of establishing an inclusive government in Afghanistan and upholding the rights of the people, especially the educational rights of women and girls, under Taliban rule. The OIC issued a statement on Sunday, May 5, stressing the importance of full respect for human rights, particularly the rights of women to work and study, and urged world governments to engage with the Taliban on these matters.

The statement expressed support for a “peaceful, stable, and inclusive” Afghanistan and highlighted the need to address the challenges facing the Afghanistani people, including humanitarian, human rights, ethnic, security, terrorism, and drug-related issues. The OIC has previously called for the establishment of an inclusive government representing all ethnic groups in Afghanistan.

The organization’s foreign ministers held their 15th two-day meeting on Saturday in Banjul, the capital of Gambia. A Taliban delegation led by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson for the group’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting. Despite nearly three years of Taliban rule in the country, the group has not been recognized by any nation. Forming an inclusive government and respecting human rights, particularly those of women and girls, remain among the international community’s preconditions for recognizing the Taliban.
