Former Government Officer and Two Civilians Arrested by Taliban in Takhar

RASC News Agency reports: Local sources from Takhar province state that the Taliban recently arrested a former Ministry of Interior officer in the province. On Sunday, May 5, sources informed the media that, in addition to the former officer, the Taliban detained two of his friends, Gulab and Zalmai, four days ago at a checkpoint in the city of Taloqan.

The former officer, identified as Nasir Ahmad, had been deported from Iran about a month ago and had since resumed a normal life. Nasir Ahmad is a resident of the blacksmiths’ village in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province. Under the previous government, he served as the commander of the Bangi police precinct. The Taliban have yet to comment on the arrest of the former officer and his two friends.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) recently published a report stating that despite the Taliban’s declaration of a general amnesty, arbitrary detentions, torture, mistreatment, and extrajudicial killings of former government officials and military personnel by the group continue across the country.
