RASC: A member of the European Parliament says that last year, during a meeting with some officials of the Taliban group, he noticed the contradictions in the group’s approach to the international community.
Hannah Newman said that the Taliban group, while emphasizing on maintaining independence from international influences, complains about the reduction of international aid to Afghanistan’s budget.
This member of the European Parliament, in an interview with Jurist legal publication, pointing to the contradictions in the Taliban’s point of view, added that while this group expresses its opposition to the evacuation and brain drain, there is no plan to provide job opportunities and livelihoods for women and men. There are no minorities in Afghanistan.
She said that despite the ban on girls’ education, many Taliban officials prefer that girls be educated at home.
In part of his speech, this parliament official said that the Taliban group is managing power in an irresponsible manner after taking over Afghanistan.
She said the group has done very little on what it promised after coming to power.
Referring to the Taliban group’s restrictive orders against Afghanistani women, Hannah Newman described the policies of this group as an example of “gender apartheid”.
Ms. Newman emphasized that the parliament has continuously put the issue of Afghanistan on its agenda. “I am deeply engaged in ongoing discussions with colleagues from other EU institutions to use the collective strength of the EU to develop a comprehensive approach,” he said.
This member of the European Parliament called it important to send humanitarian aid from the international community to Afghanistan, but emphasized that these aid should be done according to international principles.
According to him, these aids are for the people of Afghanistan, not the Taliban group.
She also said that banning women from working in UN offices by the Taliban group is an act aimed at politicizing humanitarian aid.
Ms. Newman says the international community should oppose such efforts, but continue to provide humanitarian aid where possible.
Hannah Newman also traveled to Kabul last month.
She wrote in an Instagram post at the time that the fatal depression of girls and the condition of children who “can’t even smile due to malnutrition” are “unbearable sadness” for her.
